Hello my name is Dr. Samantha Catania and I am a naturopathic doctor

“Practice makes progress, not perfection”

Who is Dr. Samantha?

  • The making.

Growing up, I was adventurous, sporty, and always running around the soccer field at recess. From karate, soccer, volleyball, and track and field, to completing my Red Cross swimming lessons, movement and sport were always a big part of my life. Eventually, I discovered a love for competitive swimming, which continued through high school and ultimately led me to my passion for coaching. As a competitive swim coach, I worked with athletes across a wide range of ages and abilities, from developmental swimmers learning the fundamentals of the sport, to age-group qualifiers competing at higher-level meets, and master’s athletes, wanting to maintain their overall fitness or train for triathlons. Through coaching, I developed a deep appreciation for the role that movement, consistency, and individualized support play in helping people reach their goals.

Alongside coaching, I completed my Bachelor of Health Science in Kinesiology at Ontario Tech University. My studies introduced me to functional and injury assessments, rehabilitation strategies, and return-to-sport protocols, allowing me to better support my athletes both on and off the pool deck. It was during this time that I discovered how rewarding it was to help others overcome challenges, build confidence in their abilities, and realize their potential. These experiences shaped my passion for healthcare and ultimately led me to naturopathic medicine, where I could bring together my love of movement and a whole-person approach to health.

  • The mindset.

To me, wellness is more than physical fitness, mental well-being, or having lab results within normal ranges. It is the interaction of all these factors, shaped by our individual experiences, circumstances, and goals. I believe healthcare should extend beyond addressing symptoms, focussing on prevention, restoring function, building resilience, and optimizing the things that allow us to live life to the fullest. Whether that means returning to your favourite sport, managing persistent pain, improving mobility, or maintaining strength and independence as you age, your definition of wellness is uniquely yours.

Of course, knowing what to do and putting it into practice are two different things! Pain, injury, stress, and the demands of everyday life, can all create barriers to progress. By addressing both the immediate concerns and the interconnected systems that influence overall health, naturopathic medicine supports recovery, as well as sustainable, lasting wellness. I take pride in helping patients navigate these challenges, feel empowered in their healthcare decisions, and develop realistic strategies that support their goals. By combining evidence-informed interventions with an individualized, patient-focused approach, we can work together to improve function, support recovery, and build habits that promote long-term health and well-being.

  • The mission.

My approach to care begins with understanding you: your health history, experiences, your movement patterns, and what matters most in your day-to-day life. The body adapts to the demands placed on it, and our physical and emotional experiences can influence how we move, recover, and respond to stress. Understanding these factors helps us look beyond the immediate concern to consider the bigger picture. With that, my mission is to support the body’s many interconnected systems and innate healing abilities, by empowering patients through education, individualized care, and sustainable treatment plans.

Whether you're recovering from a sports injury, working through persistent pain, rebuilding strength and mobility, or striving to optimize your performance and longevity, my goal is to help you move forward with confidence. Together, we'll develop a personalized, goal-oriented plan that considers your needs, addresses barriers to progress, and supports meaningful, lasting change. Because health isn't just about getting back to where you were, it's about helping you feel, move, and perform at your best, at every age and stage of life.
