Shockwave Therapy.

  • What is it?

Shockwave therapy is a non-surgical treatment for conditions such as tendinitis. Shockwave uses mechanical energy to improve blood flow and decrease pain in tissues causing your injury.

At Rehab Hero we use shockwave therapy during your treatments at no additional cost because we believe in ease of access to healthcare. We are proud to be one of the few clinics in Markham to provide this service at no extra fee.

  • How it works.

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic waves to target abnormal tissues such as scar tissue, calcification, and tendinopathy. These acoustic waves aid in the growth of blood vessels. This improves blood flow to help tissues recover. Patients typically experience reduced pain and increased function in a few sessions.

  • How often?

Depending on the condition, shockwave is normally used once a week for 4-6 weeks. During the treatment, some pain or discomfort may be felt but this can be adjusted in intensity depending on your comfort levels. The treatment only lasts for a 2-4 minutes. Long term relief may be felt in as little as 72 hours.

The Science

Common injuries like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder and jumper’s knee can negatively impact your quality of life. Luckily evidence-based research has shown that shockwave is a safe non-surgical alternative that aids in decreasing pain, and regenerating soft tissues. This research is why shockwave therapy is sought out by patients in Ontario.

Shockwave has been shown to be an effective and safe treatment for:

  • Tennis Elbow

  • Golfer’s Elbow

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Jumper’s Knee / Quadriceps Tendinitis / Patellar Tendinitis

  • Achilles Tendinitis

  • Rotator Cuff Tendinitis

  • Tendon Calcification

At Rehab Hero this treatment is used in combination with other therapies by qualified health care providers. Although relief may be felt after a single treatment, a minimum of 4-6 treatments is used to maximize the success for long term healing. Although pain relief can occur after just 1 treatment, follow up treatments are used to promote capillary growth in addition to improvements in pain levels.

Benefits:

  • Relief in addition to conventional therapy

  • No side effects

  • Return to regular activities sooner

  • Covered by most insurance companies

Ask one of our experienced clinicians about shockwave therapy if you experience any of the conditions listed above. It may be the right treatment for you.
