Hello my name is Jeffrey Ong and I am a physiotherapy resident

Who is Jeffrey?

  • The Beginning

Growing up, I considered myself living a double life: on one hand, I found ways to be active through sports, biking, and swimming. On the other hand, I was actively involved with music, having played guitar for most of my life and joining orchestra in high school. During my undergrad at McMaster University, I spent time as a swimming instructor and guitar teacher which made me realize I had a strong fascination with how the body is able to adapt and learn new skills over time. Seeing the excitement of my students learning a new song or swimming technique was the most rewarding part of my work. As with most sports, I’ve dealt with my fair share of injuries which exposed me to physiotherapy at a young age. The care I received from those clinicians helped me regain my confidence and return back to doing the things I love.

  • The Journey

Inspired by my experiences as a patient, I decided to pursue physiotherapy at McMaster University. The physiotherapy program at McMaster excels at combining small group learning with problem-based tutorials, where students are divided into small groups and tasked with determining the best course of action for a series of cases related to physiotherapy practice. During my time at McMaster, I honed my critical thinking skills and learned how to combine clinical expertise with evidence-based practice. It was through this program that laid the foundation of my physiotherapy practice.

  • The Passion

I aspire to provide the same level of care that I received while recovering from my own injuries. My goal as a physiotherapist is to ensure that you fully understand everything that we’re doing, and that you are empowered to take control of your recovery. Through a combination of manual therapy, education, and exercise prescription, I want my patients to understand that the body is resilient and capable of bouncing back stronger than before. The most rewarding part of this profession for me is seeing the excitement of my patients as they progress in their rehab and slowly returning to doing the things they love. Outside the clinic, you can catch Jeffrey scrambling up a climbing wall or finding new running paths in the area. Jeffrey also loves finding new music to jam out to, new shows to binge, and is obsessed with finding ways to beat his friends at Magic the Gathering.
